One of the most celebrated Mughal nature studies, attributed to Abu'l-Hasan, Jahangir's favoured court painter. It shows a plane (chinar) tree crowded with small squirrels climbing, chasing, and clustering along its branches, while a hunter begins to climb the trunk from below and birds occupy the surrounding foliage. The composition is prized for its close naturalistic observation and lively sense of movement, hallmarks of painting under Jahangir, who prized precise studies of the natural world.
